On Weds OCT 23rd 10am PST I will host a bonus session that goes a bit more into ritual divination and hygiene (not sensational new age b.s. though) as we move into the “Halloween” season in the northern hemisphere. Of course, the Daoists catalogued 64,000 types of ghosts, so it may seem like some esoteric subject, but it’s actually pretty normal and “hidden” amongst some very common human behaviors, such as:
not sitting on damp, cold places
not giving in to cravings/addictions
choosing grace and dignity rather than discharging your big feelings
We all know that these actions prevent various forms of possession, which the modern religion of scientism has reframed into buzzwords like triggers, trauma responses, emotional dysregulation, fight-flight-freeze responses, etc. This modern faith-based abstraction called scientism is an effort to move away from so-called superstitious beliefs, while pretending that it is wholly rational and non-belief based, which of course it isn’t, because the materialism it is based on is also a belief-based ideology.
Ghosts, as a catch all term for many natural phenomena, is absolutely not belief based or faith based, it is empirical animism and is thinking otherwise is like “not believing” in gravity or the sun or the moon. However, the over-correction of scientism and the reductionism of superstition both cloud the waters of perception, especially for modern, indoctrinated and propagandized humans.
Rather than waste precious qi arguing with people who think they are actual skeptics, but who are really unquestioning religious adherents of materialist scientism, in this session I will use the yijing hexagrams and divinations as a way to move into poetic-symbolic relationality with our haunted natures, in order to reveal a “third way” towards resolution that is neither materialist nor superstitious.
