Part one
Naked Empire Bouffon Company
Once upon a time, the SFSY student journalism dept. made a small documentary about us.
It remains as one of the only archives of work from my time in the Bay Area.
I don’t count myself as a formal member of Naked Empire Bouffon, but they were generous enough to allow me to practice and perform with them for a while. Discovering bouffon was a major formative moment for me. An artform whose worldview, ethics and aesthetic matched my internal experience of reality-as-dream. This was before I really superduperfocused on learning trauma work, animism and nonduality. But I do not say this lightly - bouffon work on its own, is likely 75% of what people need to metabolize trauma. It was that other 25% that I went out to learn so that I could return. The clown in deathclown in many ways IS bouffon work.
