The following writing is part one of the four new sections i have written for Death Practice Group #7, Further Into The Good Night: A Continuation of Non-Conceptual, Sleep & Dream Practices, coming up Weds Dec 14 2022 4pm PST.
Parts 1-3 (sent out to registrants) act as a kind of review and preliminary study for December’s class. Part 4 and my dissemination of Ming’s Bardo (After Death) Realms, as well as more experiential Death Practices will be featured in the live session.
If you haven’t yet come to any Death Practice Groups or purchased recordings (available here, scroll down to the bottom) then some of the terminology i’m using will be unfamiliar to you.
1. Re-Sourcing-Re-Discovering-Re-Vealing The Pre-Ethical Heart-Mind
First, Third and Fifth eye, harmonizing vitally, in The Vital Space, pulsing radially, mirror The Mirror.
This is our personal shen-dao mirroring the BIG Shen-Dao of The Mother, Death The True Mirror. The luminous dark empty eternal Space that allows for the capacity for reflection to manifest. This capacity for reflection is also the call & response musical nature of nature. The infinite layering aspect we see in ecosystems and in the sonic register of ecologies. The polyphonic, polyrhythmic call & response infrastructure that adapts, mutates and evolves.
This reality is also the manifestation of The Play of Wisdom, Leela. The Play of Wisdom is ShivaShakti entwined, is yinyang inseparable and becoming each other, forever.
It is pre-ethical, pre-moral, pre-mythic. It is The Mother of Ethics, The Mother of Morals, The Mother of Myth.
Getting lost in or becoming addicted to myth, the play of right & wrong, is a rampant force in our human societies. It is a double edged sword, harming as much as it appears to help us.
Concepts are the child of Pre-conceptual, Non-conceptuality. The Mother is not a concept, not an ethic, not a myth. Gods are concepts, so The Mother is not a God or Goddess either. The names Dao or Shen-Dao are also concepts, they merely point us in a direction by which we might reach the “farthest shore” of our perception, to realize we have never left home, never traveled anywhere, and thus have never been lost or found, but only appeared to be by virtue of the position or state of our attention.
We “embark upon the journey-less journey” “Back” (“backwards/al-chemically”) Home to realize we have never been harmed, never been abandoned, never been traumatized, except for the creative appearance of such concepts. And the appearance of such concepts and phenomena proves the nature of reality, which is a kind of Dreaming. A Dreaming where appearances are as real as they seem, but not more than that.
There is no “really real because science”. Only the infinite expressions of creative play that manifest in all the ways we tangle ourselves up in temporary appearances, so that we can express and celebrate the joy inherent in both getting tangled up AND untangling without any kind of loss whatsoever.
The Mother, Death The True Mirror is Dreaming and IS DREAM. We are her children AND Herself, at the same time. We are Dreamers Dreaming, AND we are Dream Dreaming Dreamers Who Dream.
All of this seeming cause & effect/call & response/karma is the pre-ethical heart-mind at play.
To collaborate with this always already happening phenomena, we must sometimes practice ways of reducing our barriers to intimacy, barriers which include constantly making up and believing in stories (myths) to explain reality, and constantly valuing phenomena as better-than/worse-than. We must learn or re-discover how to Pause the Ethical Craving without turning into reactive sociopathic monsters. For there is no need to react to the seeming loss of ethics, really, when we feel the refreshing, re-vitalizing field of pre-ethical Play which is Inherent Wisdom Nature.
One way to begin this process is to play your preferences and their seeming opposites on purpose, using some kind of reflective device. A mirror, a sheet of writing paper, a playmate, etc.
You play your preferences in ways that allow you to really “catch/hook” them, or penetrate into them (GOING IN, GOING TO THE END). You must maintain the Strong Intent to really be honest and authentic to the consequences of phenomena, without entertaining the mythologies of debt, credit, or other score-keeping narratives. You must suppress your urge to dominate others, but you can really play at dominating yourself On Purpose, so that you can “get to the bottom of it” like a spiritual detective. You enter your preferences as dreams which manifest in various sensorial and psychic movements, actions, behaviors. In this way, eventually you can perceive clearly how your preferences are children of Hunger, and then even go further, towards The Mother of Hunger, and then even further, The Mother of The Mother etc etc.
In the above example I chose preferences, a subset of Hunger, because it tends to be the easiest path for most people. However, more practiced Players can also choose to Go Into Pain and Fear as Dreams/Wisdom Gates as well. Eventually, the Player-Practitioner will perceive all phenomena as Doors To The Mother without ethical value judgments.
