The Beginning of Summer is here. And with it, the abundance of yang that is currently being misused by the west, by men, by colonizers, by white folks, etc.

In daoist-confucian wisdom science, the months of summer are considered the most dangerous, they can cause what i call “yang derangement syndrome”. This YDS is pervasive and cultural, as well as “personal”. Pervading the individual’s relationship of radiance - the heart - and corrupting our appetites, preferences and desires. It inflames our hungers and consumes us, like a wildfire instead of an indigenous-led controlled burn.

This is also the time when people become so “busy” that they neglect their practices, learning and hygiene until it’s too late. Years of ignorance and misconduct become normalized, blamed on “other” things, “other” people. Outsourced responsibility. Yang in its most malignant form is demonic, it cannot look honestly at itself for it has dislodged its shen, its heart spirit.

This is whiteness, this is colonization, this is dualistic materialism, this is spiritual bypass… these are all the factors that the bulk of the oppressed are demanding be rectified, but that yang deranged people cannot attend to.

So, what to do when the very things you crave, like love, connection, belonging, pleasure…. are prevented BY YOU, due to this preponderance of yang derangement? How can YOU take responsibility and return to the close-in relationship matrix of the heart that is beyond the dualistic preferences and desires that will NEVER get you what you want?

In the Snake Moon, we always have an opportunity to educate the qi, educate our appetites so that we don’t further the misuse of yang qi.

BUT WILL YOU DO IT?

Or will you, like most modern people, just whine and whine and outsource all your problems onto “other” things, never allowing honesty to blossom into liberation?
